MAJOR SUPERIOR OF THE SISTERS SERVANTS VISITS HER COMMUNITIES IN CANADA

Sr. Sophia Lebedowicz, SSMI, the Superior General of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate has travelled from Rome to make visitations to the Sisters of her order in Canada. She has already visited the institutions and communities of her Sisters in Toronto and Saskatoon. She is now visiting the communities within the Archeparchy of Winnipeg. It is not known if she will be able to visit all the homes and ministries that are run by the Sisters Servants in Canada, but after Winnipeg, she does plan yet to visit Montreal.

Sr Sophia was chosen in 2017 to serve as the General Superior of the global order. Besides overseeing the general administration of the SSMI from their 'headquarters' on Via Cassia in Rome, Sr. Sophia is required to make canonical visits to the homes of her Sisters throughout the world. The Sisters have missions and apostolates throughout Europe, the Americas and Oceana.

The Sisters Servants, from the time that they initiated their first apostolate in Winnipeg almost 115 years ago, established many major and lesser homes and institutions throughout the territory of the present day Archeparchy. They ran major nursing homes in Winnipeg and Dauphin, schools in Winnipeg and Sifton, as well as many catechetical, youth and pastoral programs on parish and Archeparchial levels. In recent years, the Sisters in Manitoba have elected to "regroup" and concentrate on their most successful apostolates - especially Holy Family Home (that will soon open its massive new expansion) and Immaculate Heart of Mary School, both in Winnipeg - and, in due time, discern how best to reach out again with pastoral assistance "where the need is greatest".

Sr. Sophia, accompanied by a local delegation of her Sisters, is also visiting sites where her Sisters conduct perhaps smaller, but very important apostolates - like the Ukrainian Park Summer Camp and parishes where the Sisters conduct or participate in religious education programs.
