THE SISTERS SERVANTS ELECT SISTER SOFIA LEBEDOWICZ FROM POLAND TO BE THEIR NEW GENERAL SUPERIOR
Sr. Sofia Slavomyra Lebedowicz, SSMI was chosen by the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate at their General Chapter now taking place in Rome, to serve as their new General Superior. Sister Sofia, from Poland, now takes the place of outgoing Canadian Sister Theresa Slota to lead the Congregations of Sisters in their many homes and missions around the world.
A year ago on June 6, 2016 at the provincial chapter (i.e. meeting) of the “Our Lady of Perpetual Help” province of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in Poland, Sr. Sofia was elected to serve as the 2nd Counsellor and also the Econome (i.e. financial officer) of the province.
Sister Sofia was in Canada in 2003 together with the Sisters Servants’ provincial superiors and provincial council memberas from around the world as part of the Congregation’s 100th anniversary in Canada celebrations. A the time she visited the Sisters Servants principal missions in Dauphin and Winnipeg – including a memorable visit to Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
The other members of the General Council of the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate are as follows:
Sr. Boniface Diakiv of the Ukrainian Province of the Co-suffering of the Mother of God was chosen to serve as the vice-general superior.
Sister Janice Soluk from Winnipeg from the Canadian Province of Christ the King was chosen to be the 2nd General Counselor
Sister Nicholas Stepac from the Congregation’s Serbian Province of St. Joseph will serve as the 3rd General Counsellor.
Sister Luiza Ciupa now in Ukraine, but from the Brazilian Province of St. Michael the Archangel will be the 4th General Counsellor.
They have all been appointed for a six-year term that will conclude in 2023.
