Metropolitan Lawrence Speaks at Archivist Convention
The months of work of the Archivist for the Archeparchy of Winnipeg, Gloria Romaniuk, blossomed mid-May into the very successful National Conference of the Catholic Archivist Group. The conference was a four-day affair that took place at various locations in the historic city of Winnipeg from 13-16 May 2019. The theme, "Community, Faith and the Future" saw the group participate in lecture experiences, but also liturgical events and social occasions. Most sessions took place at the Franco-Manitobain Centre, but also the University of Winnipeg, the Cathedral of Saint-Boniface. The Archbishop of Winnipeg, His Grace, Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak was invited along with other local dignitaries to attend the Conference and some special events in particular. One such special event was a "Ukrainian Dinner" on the second evening of the conference, which was held in the bright atrium of the University of Winnipeg's Richardson College for the Environment.
The dinner was a wonderful meal, catered by the University of St. Boniface, and included, besides Ukrainian requisites - varenynky, holubtsi, kovbasa and buryachok - an exquisite selection of desserts. Fr. Michael Kwiatkowski opened the evening with a greeting and a prayer. While His Grace, Metropolitan Lawrence addressed those gathered during the meal with a brief presentation about the Ukrainian Church History of Canada and also of the Winnipeg experience in particular. The meal concluded with a 'door prize' type draw with prizes of historical studies, biographies, and music that everyone appreciated very much.
