UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH PREPARES FOR ‘MISSION DAYS’ 2019

HEAD OF EVANGELIZATION DEPARTMENT OF THE UGCC SPEAKS ABOUT THE 2019 MISSION DAYS
Bishop Yosafat Moschych, the Head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church's Council on Evangelization, addresses the eparchies throughout the world concerning the exciting Mission Days movement that was initiated five years ago. The Mission Days program was received with enthusiasm by pastors and parishioners alike. Mission Days runs from the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord to the feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit - Pentecost. Every year, active parishes look forward to the 10-day Mission Days program that gives the parish community an opportunity to take action with regard to one of the fundamental mandates of Christ to His Church - "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation!" (Mark 16:15). Here is Bishop Yosafat's message...
REALIZING MISSION DAYS 2019
With this letter, we want to remind you that Mission Days this year begin on May 30th (June 6th according to the Julian Calendar) on the feast of the Ascension of our Lord and they conclude on June 9th (June 16th) on the feast of Pentecost. Please note that the Mission Days this year will be based on the materials attached to this letter and they will be posted at the link given [HERE]
The Goals of Mission Days are...
- to reignite the gift of faith that we received in the Mystery (Sacrament) of Baptism;
- to make us capable of sharing the faith with our neighbours;
- to help us to bring into the world the joy of the Gospel - the Good News of Salvation in Christ; and
- that we would become disciples of Christ, missionaries, preaching to the world the mercy of God's Love.
Mission Days, according to the 2017-2018 instructions, has three important elements (cf. Instruction for Priests "Methodological guidelines" pp. 78-81):
- The Feast of the Ascension (May 30 / June 6)
- Saturday-Sunday (May 31-June 2 / June 8-9)
- The Feast of Pentecost (June 6 / June 16)
During these Days, we want to encourage to engage in the following activities....
- Pray the Rosary with meditations and Bible quotes;
- Conduct spiritual gatherings of a kerygmatic (apologetic/catechetical) nature, for adults and for youth. Or nightly prayer vigils "from the Resurrection to Pentecost".
- Implement practical advice for the revitalization of parish life (for active parishes) - a suggestion box; a parish council (for all parishioners); and meetings for "mutual support".
Having shared positive experiences of parishes
where the Mission Days have already been started, we suggest the following tips as to how to involve the whole parish in the Mission Days this year.
By the example of St Michael's Parish in the town of Zabolotiv (fyi "wetlands"), Ukraine (Eparchy of Kolomeya) we suggest that each day of the Mission Days program be conducted by a different segment of parishioners. For example - on the first day, the Catechism children and their teachers would lead the Rosary with (brief) meditations taken from the Mission Days handbook. On the second day, the youth. On the third day - one or more of the parish organizations. On Pentecost - families. Also, within the context of Mission Days, a celebration can be organized for the families of the parish, where the renewal of marriage vows can take place. This would be a memorable event and festivity for the whole parish.
Also, a small pilgrimage could be organized like Fr. Basil Brona, the pastor of Holy Ascension parish in the town of V. Berezovytsia (Ternopil Archeparchy). During Mission Days, members of the "Mothers in Prayer" society, the Archbrotherhood of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, The Family Brotherhood and the Living Rosary society organized a joint pilgrimage to the pilgrimage site of the springs of the village of Ostriv. Following prayer, all the participants contemplated the theme of the sixth day of the program - "Responsibility".
The example of the parishes of Zbarazh and Chernivtsi was that they made an "Arch of the Holy Spirit" (see photos) that consisted of photos of the parishioners.

Проведення Декади місійності у 2019 році
Цим листом хочемо пригадати Вам, що Декада місійності цього року розпочнеться 6 червня (30 травня за Григоріанським календарем) на празник Вознесіння Господнього і завершиться 16 червня (9 червня) на празник П'ятидесятниці. Нагадуємо, що Декада цього року відбуватиметься на основі минулорічних матеріалів. Метою Декади місійності є...
- розпалити в нас дар віри, який ми отримали в таїнстві Хрещення;
- зробити нас здатними ділитися вірою з ближніми;
- допомогти нам нести у світ радість Євангеліє, Добру Новину спасіння в Христі;
- щоб ми стали як учні Христові, місіонерами, проголошуючи світові милосердну Божу любов.
Декада місійності, згідно Інструкції 2017-2018 рр., має три важливі елементи (Див. Інструкція для священиків «Методологічні вказівки» - С. 78-81):
-
- празник Вознесіння (6 червня , 30 травня)
- субота-неділя (8-9 червня, 31 травня-2 червня)
- празник Зіслання Святого Духа (16 червня, 9 червня).
Впродовж саме цих днів заохочуємо до наступних заходів. А саме:
- Молитви на вервичці із розважаннями та біблійними уривками (Див. Інструкція - С.130-133,164-166).
- Проведення Духовних зустрічей, а саме керигматичні на різну тему для дорослих (Див. Інструкція - С.118-129, 148-163, 166-171) і молоді (Див. Інструкція - С.111-117, 138-143), або ж нічні чування «Від Воскресіння до П'ятидесятниці» (Див. Інструкція - С.171-202).
- Виконання Практичних порад для пожвавлення життя парафії (для активних парафій) - скринька пропозицій, парафіяльний соборчик, зустріч «Взаємодопомога» (Див. Інструкція - С.86-88, 97-99).
Ділячись позитивним досвідом парафій, де вже відбувалася Декада, пропонуємо підказки як саме можна залучити усю парафію до участі в Декаді.
За прикладом парафія Св. Архистратига Михаїла смт. Заболотів (Коломийська єпархія), пропонуємо, щоб кожен день програми Декади проводила окрема категорія мирян. Наприклад, першого дня Декади діти з катехитом провадять молитву на вервичці із розважаннями, використовуючи матеріали з Інструкції. Другого дня - молодь, третього - парафіяльні спільноти, якщо такі є на парафії. В празник П'ятидесятниці - сім'ї. Для сімей на парафії в рамках Декади можна влаштувати свято відновлення шлюбних обітів, що стало б пам'ятною подією і святом усієї парафії.
Також можна провести невеличку прощу, як це зробив о. Василь Брона, парох храму Вознесіння Господнього смт. В. Березовиця Тернопільсько-Зборівської єпархії. А саме: «У рамках декади місійності учасники спільнот «Матері в молитві», архибратства Матері Божої Неустанної Помочі, братства родин, «Живої вервиці» церкви Вознесіння Господнього смт. В. Березовиця здійснили прощу до джерела с. Острів. Після молитви всі учасники роздумували над темою шостого дня місійності - «Відповідальність» (Див. Інстуркція - С.102-104,166-171, Путівник - С.29).
За прикладом парафій м. Збаража та м. Чернівці можна зробити Арку Святого Духа (фото додається) із фотографіями парафіян.
Також повідомляємо, що Інструкції для священиків та Путівник для мирян буде завантажено на мобільному додатку Дивенсвіт до початку Декади.
Просимо координаторів Живої парафії дізнатися і повідомити нас скільки і кому потрібно надіслати Інструкцій для священиків або Путівників для мирян за 2018р., за якими Декада буде відбуватися й цього року.
