NEW METROPOLITAN APPOINTED TO PHILADELPHIA

BISHOP BORYS GUDZIAK OF PARIS APPOINTED TO HEAD PHILADELPHIA METROPOLIA
The Ukrainian Catholic Bishop of Parish, His Excellency, Most Rev. Borys Gudziak, was appointed to serve as Metropolitan Archbishop of Philadelphia. Bishop Borys was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, but was ordained in Lviv, Ukraine and served many years in Ukraine as the founder and director of the Institute of Church History, and was the principal force behind the establishment the Ukrainian Catholic University in Ukraine - for which he has long served as Rector and President.
The new Metropolitan's installation, to be presided over by the Head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, is slated to take place in Philadelphia on 4 June 2019.
The Archeparchial See of Philadelphia has been attended to by former auxiliary Bishop Andriy Rabiy since the former Metropolitan Stefan Soroka resigned in 2018 and retired to Winnipeg. Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna) of London, England will oversee the Eparchy of Paris until a new Bishop is appointed.
