DEACON MICHAEL STRILEC, OFS 1932-2016
Archeparchial Deacon of 31 years to be laid to rest in Portage la Prairie
On Thursday morning, Metropolitan Lawrence sent out a notice to the clergy and sisters of the Archeparchy that Hierodeacon Rev. Michael Strilec, OFS died peacefully on October 19th, 2016 at the Portage District General Hospital. He had been contacted by Deacon Michael’s daughter Angela.
Deacon Michael was a Psych Nurse by profession, but joined the secular
Franciscan Order in 1974. His commitment to the Franciscan life is something which he lived heart and soul. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1981 and served the Church faithfully for over 30 years. The Archeparchy extends its sympathy to his large family and all the parishioners of Portage la Prairie.
The Parastas will be prayed on Monday evening, October 24 at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption (620 1st Street NW) in Portage la Prairie, MB at 7:00 PM.
The Funeral Liturgy will take place at the same church on Tuesday morning, October 25 at 10:00 AM.
Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Portage. (25 St. NW, Portage la Prairie, MB) Omega Funeral Home in Portage is taking care of the arrangements (and a complete obituary is available on their website by clicking the name above)
