METROPOLITAN AND ALL CANADA’S UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS ATTEND THE CCCB CONFERENCE 26-30 SEPTEMBER, 2016
Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak, the Archbishop of Winnipeg, is attending the annual plenary session of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. Together will all the Catholic Bishops of Canada, he will be joining the Ukrainian Catholic bishops of his Metropolitan province in Canada.
During the conference, the bishops will discuss their ongoing response to Bill C-14 on Euthanasia and Physician-Assisted Suicide passed by the Trudeau government. They will also talk about the path forward on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action regarding Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples.
Of course the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy will be at the heart of the Conference. In fact the bishops enmass will make a Jubilee Year pilgrimage to the Holy Door site at a local church.
There will be many reports from the many sub-committees and commissions of the Conference. Metropolitan Lawrence serves on four such committees, including the “Permanent Council” which functions in a similar manner to the Permanent Synod of an Eastern Church. The Bishops will also reflect on Pope Francis’ recent documents - Laudato Si', on the environment, and Amoris Laetitia, on love and the family, and decide how best to implement them in the Church and society in Canada.
The Ukrainian Catholic Bishops also make time to hold a conference among themselves to discuss matters pertinent to the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada.
