It is with immense pride and joy that we announce the recent recognition of one of our cherished parishioners, Joan Lewandosky of the Holy Eucharist Parish. Mrs. Joan, who also serves as President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Manitoba Provincial Council, has been awarded the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal. This honor highlights her invaluable contributions to the Ukrainian Canadian community and to the province of Manitoba as a whole.

The announcement was made on October 23, 2024, by The Honourable Anita R. Neville, P.C., O.M., the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. The notice from Her Honour emphasized Joan's lifelong commitment to advocating for her Ukrainian heritage and fostering a stronger, more connected community. Originally from Sandy Lake, Manitoba, Joan's journey has been defined by a passion for education, heritage, and service. She holds degrees in Science and Education from the University of Manitoba, credentials that she has applied through her roles as a teacher, guidance counselor, and dedicated volunteer.

Joan's leadership within the Ukrainian community has been extensive and impactful. As President of the UCC Manitoba, she has worked tirelessly to preserve and promote Ukrainian culture, supporting initiatives that benefit both Ukrainian Canadians and Canadians at large. Her influence extends beyond this role, as she has held executive positions in several Ukrainian organizations, parishes and woman's league, lending her expertise and dedication to causes that strengthen cultural ties and community resilience.

In addition to the King Charles III Coronation Medal, Joan's contributions have previously earned her esteemed recognitions, including Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, induction into the Folk Arts Council Hall of Fame and the Bulava Award. Her accomplishments are not only a testament to her dedication but also a source of pride for all who know her, especially her supportive husband, Henry Kuzia, who has stood by her side throughout her journey.

Joan's leadership has not only uplifted the Ukrainian Canadian community but has also strengthened cultural ties across Manitoba. In her own words she accepts this honor on behalf of the countless volunteers, supporters, clergy, and advocates who work tirelessly for the Ukrainian cause.

The Metropolitan Lawrence, Bishop Andriy, Clergy and faithful of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg, along with countless supporters and community members, extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Joan Lewandosky.
