In Memoriam of Bishop Basil Losten
September 17, 2024
On behalf of the clergy and faithful of the Archeparchy of Winnipeg, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Bishop Paul Chomnycky the clergy and faithful of the Eparchy of Stamford USA, on the passing of Bishop Emeritus Basil Losten.
With deep sorrow, we announce that, after a brief illness, Bishop Basil Losten fell asleep in the Lord on September 15, 2024, in a hospital in Stamford.
Bishop Basil's life was dedicated to the service of God and the Church. Ordained as a priest in 1957 and consecrated as a bishop in 1971, he became the Eparch of Stamford in 1977. Under his leadership, the eparchy flourished, with Bishop Basil overseeing numerous developments, fostering religious education, and caring for the spiritual needs of the faithful. His work extended beyond the local community, as he was also a key figure in strengthening the connection between the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the diaspora and the Church in Ukraine.
His leadership and pastoral care touched the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt within the Eparchy of Stamford and beyond.
Vichnaya Pamyat!
