FR. JAY KORBAN ON CHVN RADIO

June 24, 2024

In April, CHVN Radio featured an interview with Fr. Jay Korban. The interview highlights his unique journey to priesthood and the challenges he faces in his current ministry.

Fr. Jay vocation began early in his childhood, influenced by the clergy he encountered frequently due to his parents' funeral home business. Despite exploring other careers, his path consistently led him back to the priesthood. He earned a bachelor's degree in geography and philosophy from the University of Winnipeg and later moved to Ottawa to study at the Ukrainian Catholic Seminary, eventually obtaining a Master of Divinity from Saint Paul University.

Ordained during the COVID-19 pandemic in August 2020, Fr. Jay Korban now serves the Rossburn Ukrainian Catholic Pastoral District, which encompasses about 14 parishes over a vast geographical area. This requires him to travel extensively, sometimes driving nearly 700 kilometers during busy periods like Holy Week and Easter. Despite the logistical challenges, he finds joy in reconnecting with the communities and witnessing a resurgence in church attendance post-pandemic.

The article also touches on his time as the Goldeyes mascot, which he credits with teaching him valuable communication skills. His ministry has recently included supporting families from Ukraine affected by the ongoing agression by russia, and he is optimistic about the future of his congregations.
