Last Sunday, June 16, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the life of Fr. John Sianchuk CSsR, a well respected member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer/CSsR, as he celebrated his 50th anniversary of priestly ordination. This momentous occasion was commemorated with a solemn and joyous Divine Liturgy of Thanksgiving held at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church on June 15, 2024. The celebration brought together clergy, religious and laity alike to honor Fr. John's decades of dedicated service to the Ukrainian Catholic Church and the religious comunity of of the Most Holy Redeemer in Canada. Fr. John Sianchuk's 50th anniversary of priestly ordination is a testament to a life dedicated to the service of God and His people.
The Divine Liturgy was graced by the presence of six bishops, 15 priests, and one deacon, all of whom gathered to celebrate and give thanks for Fr. John's unwavering commitment to his vocation.
The congregation witnessed a moving and spiritually enriching service, with Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak OSBM, delivering a heartfelt sermon that paid tribute to Fr. John's remarkable journey.
Metropolitan Lawrence, in his sermon, highlighted the essence of Fr. John's ministry, reflecting on his profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and communities. The sermon was a reminder of the role that clergy play in guiding and nurturing the spiritual growth of their congregations.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Fr. John was honored with a Papal Blessing parchment, a symbol of the Holy Father Pope Francis' acknowledgment of Fr. John Sianchuk's 50 years of priestly ministry. This blessing serves as a testament to Fr. John's enduring faith and his exemplary service to the Church.
Additionally, Fr. John received a Hramota from His Beatitude Sviatoslav Patriarch of the UGCC, further emphasizing the high regard in which he is held within the ecclesiastical hierarchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The Hramota, a formal ecclesiastical document of honor, celebrated Fr. John's lifetime of devotion and his significant contributions to the spiritual life of the community and his dedication to promote the life of Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky.
The atmosphere at St. Joseph's Church was one of profound gratitude and celebration. The liturgy was not only a time of prayer and thanksgiving but also an opportunity for the community to come together and express their heartfelt appreciation for Fr. John's ministry.
