VISIT OF PATRIARCH SVIATOSLAV SHEVCHUK TO SASKATOON, SK

The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon is pleased to announce that the Father and Head of the world-wide Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, His Beatitude, the Most Rev. Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Patriarch of Kyiv-Halich, will be coming to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to lead our church community in the services of nominating, consecrating, and installing the Very Rev. Michael Smolinski, C.Ss.R., as our sixth Eparchial Bishop.
The Co-consecrators will be His Grace, the Most Rev. Lawrence Huculak, O.S.B.M., Archbishop of Winnipeg and Metropolitan of Canada and His Excellency, the Most Rev. Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R., Eparchial Bishop of Toronto and Eastern Canada, and former Eparchial Bishop of Saskatoon. Msgr. Antons Prikulis, First Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature will attend the Consecration to represent the Nuncio to Canada, His Excellency, the Most Rev. Ivan Jurkovič. Many other bishops, priests and dignitaries will be in attendance.
These services and celebrations will take place at each of the three parishes in Saskatoon respectively: at 6:30pm on January 19, 2024, at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of the Dormition of the Blessed Mother of God, at 10:00am on January 20, 2024, at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of Saints Peter and Paul, and at 10:00am on January 21, 2024, at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George.
Further to these services, the Patriarch has already accepted a full itinerary of activities. These include an encounter with newly arrived Ukrainians on January 21, 2024, at 7:00pm at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George, and a meeting with staff and students and tour of Bishop Filevich Ukrainian Bilingual School on January 23, 2024.
