UKRAINE THANKS WINNIPEG ARCHEPARCHY

THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF UKRAINE ISSUES CERTIFICATE OF GRATITUDE TO THE ARCHEPARCHY OF WINNIPEG

Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak received an unexpected package in the mail that included a wonderful souvenir book about Ukraine and a "hramota" (certificate) of gratitude. The book [Travelbook Ukraine] and hramota came from the Ukraine's parliament or "Verkhovna Rada" (supreme council) as a token of recognition for the support that the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg has directed toward helping the people of Ukraine as Russia wages its unconscionable war against Ukraine. This includes a great deal of donations through various avenues, including Canada's CNEWA, as well as offering aid to the millions of refugees that have poured out from Ukraine into Poland and other neighboring countries and who have made their way all the way to Winnipeg. One of the largest efforts of the Archeparchy in Winnipeg was to sponsor the all-summer day camps for the children of newcomers to Winnipeg. The camp aptly named "U-Win" now serves about 120 children that have days filled with education, English-language learning and, yes, fun and fellowship.

Of course, the Archeparchy is grateful for the kind gesture of acknowledgement, but at the same time, the members of the Archeparchy throughout Manitoba are encouraged to continue to show their care and generosity toward Ukraine and, especially the newcomers that are making their way to Manitoba. The help may be offered by monetary donations and volunteering to help the various efforts now organized and by offering housing and jobs if there are able to do so.
