UKRAINE, CANADA AND THE CHURCH

February 20, 2024

Two years have passed since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of people. The Canadian Council of Churches, representing 25 Christian denominations, has expressed its deep concern once again over continued violations of human rights, killings of innocent people and children, and solidarity with the people of Ukraine in a pastoral letter issued on the occasion of the second anniversary of the war. The letter urges prayers for peace in Ukraine, restoration of justice, and to provide humanitarian aid to people affected by the war and refugees.

The letter was supported and signed by 45 representatives of various churches and ecclesiastical bodies of Canada. Metropolitan Lawrence has signed it on behalf of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada.
