PARISH CARETAKER

Holy Eucharist Parish is seeking a Caretaker to provide a clean, safe, and attractive environment for parishioners, employees, and parish centre rentals, and guests. Its a full time employment, 40 hours per week. The Caretaker will perform janitorial and custodial work, maintain the church building and property, and complete minor repairs. The successful candidate will report to the Property Management Chair and the Pastor.
General Requirements:
• Prior experience in maintenance and custodial services required.
• Fluency in English.
• Good interpersonal skills: diplomacy, gentleness, a capacity to work cooperatively with clergy, staff and volunteers of the church, parishioners, related organizations, renters, and external contractors.
• Punctual, courteous, dependable, and friendly.
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Knowledge of simple plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, and general repair work pertaining to large facilities.
• Mechanically inclined and proficient with use of small hand tools to complete small repairs.
• Ability to assess immediate maintenance and custodial needs and to prioritize tasks.
• This position requires standing for extended periods, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
• A capacity to perform the work outlined above with minimum supervision.
• Flexibility to work periodically on weekends and/or holidays.
• Knowledge of the Catholic Church, its culture and principles, and respect for its leadership.
• A criminal background check will be required of the successful applicant.
• Initial three-month performance evaluation followed by annual performance evaluation.
