NEW LITURGICAL TEXTS

February 15, 2024

On January 25, 2024, the Patriarch Svyatoslav, promulgated the new Ukrainian translation of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom and the Divine Liturgy St. Basil the Great.

In his decree Father and Head of our Church His Beatitude Svyatoslav said that, translations of liturgical texts should be updated periodically, since no Bible translation is done once and for all. Further he said, that, each liturgical reform is carried out only in view of the organic development of the Church. The periodic revision of the texts by which people pray is always aimed at deepening our understanding of the liturgical text and deepening of our faith.

The Liturgical Committee worked for ten years on the modern Ukrainian language translations of the Divine Liturgies of St. John Chrysostom and St. Basil the Great. Their work was approved by the Synods of Bishops in Przemyƛl in 2022, and in Rome, 2023.

Starting with the feast of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God, March 25, 2024, the new Ukrainian translation will become the standard text in use.

All translations of Divine Liturgies into other languages including English will be adapted to the new Ukrainian liturgical translation. The new English translation of the texts of Divine Liturgy is in the working as we speak.
