Catechism

Catechetical education is the process of religious instruction and formation within the Christian Catholic faith. It focuses on teaching the core beliefs, doctrines, practices, and values of the faith. Here are the key components of catechetical education:

  1. Teaching Dogmatic Truths: It involves educating the faithful about the core doctrines and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  2. Moral and Ethical Development: It explains and emphasizes the development of moral principles and ethical norms as integral parts of Christian Catholic teaching.
  3. Understanding Holy Scriptures: Catechesis helps believers understand and interpret the Bible, especially Gospel, from the Catholic perspective.
  4. Understanding Ukrainian Catholic Tradition: It educates parishioners about the history, traditions, services and practices of the Ukrainian Catholic Church.
  5. Preparation for Sacraments: It plays a crucial role in preparing individuals, especially children and youth, for receiving the Holy Sacraments of Christian Initiation, First Confession and Holy Communion.
  6. Active Parish Participation: Catechetical education encourages active participation in church life, including volunteering, charitable activities, parish and community involvement.
  7. Evangelization: It serves as an important tool for spreading the Christian faith and values within families and the broader community, especially in a diverse society like Canada.

Catechetical education is designed to deepen the Catholic faith of believers, strengthen their spirituality, and build a strong and cohesive parish. It provides the necessary knowledge and spiritual tools for individuals to live out their faith in everyday life, fostering personal growth and community unity.

Monthly Online Meetings for Catechists

The Patriarchal Catechetical Commission of the UGCC is pleased to announce the beginning of monthly online meetings for catechists in Canada and for those who feel called to this ministry.

These meetings are an opportunity to:

  • build a supportive community of catechists,

  • grow together in faith and ministry,

  • and share experiences, resources, and encouragement.

Who can join?
These gatherings are open not only to current catechists, but also to anyone who feels called to serve, even if you have never been involved in catechesis before.

“The essential work of the Church is to teach and form Christians in the faith, leading them into fellowship with Jesus Christ and the Church community” (Catechism of the UGCC – Christ Our Pascha, no. 54).

Together, let us strengthen catechetical ministry in our parishes and eparchies for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.
