Childhood and Family
Bishop Andriy was born on October 1, 1975, in Lviv, Ukraine, to Anton and Iryna Rabiy. His parents currently reside in Zymna Voda, a village outside of Lviv. He has one younger brother, Vitaliy, who lives in Ukraine and works as a teacher in a local high school.
Education
After completing his elementary education in 1992, Bishop Andriy entered the Ivano-Frankivsk Seminary to study philosophy. In 1994, he moved to the United States to continue his studies at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Seminary and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 1999 while also completing the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree in religious studies. He then pursued theology at the Dominican House of Studies, earning a Master’s degree (cum laude) in 2002.
Priestly Ministry
He was ordained a subdeacon in May 1998 and a deacon in November 1999 by Metropolitan Stephen Sulyk of Philadelphia. On December 19, 2001, he was ordained to the priesthood by Metropolitan Stefan Soroka at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia.
Father Andriy served as an administrator for several parishes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and established a mission parish in Lancaster, PA. He earned a Licentiate in Canon Law from The Catholic University of America in 2008. Within the Archeparchy of Philadelphia, he held various significant responsibilities, including serving as Protosyncellus (Vicar General), Vice-Chancellor, Safe Environment Coordinator and archivist.
Episcopal Ministry
On August 8, 2017, Pope Francis appointed Father Andriy Rabiy as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Philadelphia Archeparchy, assigning him the titular see of Germaniciana. His episcopal consecration took place on September 3, 2017, at St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv.
On April 16, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Philadelphia Archeparchy, a role he held until June 4, 2019, when he resumed his duties as Auxiliary Bishop.
On November 10, 2022, Pope Francis, with the consent of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC, appointed Bishop Andriy Rabiy as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Winnipeg.
