About Archeparchy

The Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg is a significant part of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, situated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Its jurisdiction spans the entire province of Manitoba, which has a population of approximately 1,454,902 people, eastern part of the Nunavut province up to the Arctic circle, and covers an area of over 1,000,000 sq. km. The Archeparchy is bordered by the Eparchy of Saskatoon to the west, the Eparchy of Toronto to the east, and the Eparchy of St. Nicholas of Chicago to the south. It is divided into two protopresbyteries (deaneries): the Winnipeg Deanery, comprising 33 parishes, and the Dauphin Deanery with 59 parishes.

The Archeparchy of Winnipeg serves a population of about 4,000, with 36 priests, including 25 eparchial and 11 hieromonks. Parish life is centered in 92 parishes and missions, supported by 10 monks and 17 nuns. Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak is the Archbishop of the Archeparchy since 2006, and Bishop Andriy Rabiy serves as Auxiliary Bishop since 2022. The Archeparchial Cathedral of Sts. Volodymyr and Olga is located at 115 McGregor Street in Winnipeg, and the patron saint is Blessed Bishop Nykyta Budka.

The Archeparchy is actively involved in social ministry and activities, including the Catholic School of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Holy Family Home for the Elderly, a kindergarten, and the Love Foundation led by the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in Winnipeg. Additionally, The Welcome Home, managed by the Redemptorist Fathers in Winnipeg, and several organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood, and the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada, are part of the archeparchial initiatives.

Moreover, the Archeparchy owns the Ukrainian Park, a venue for recreational and educational activities, particularly for youth. Annual camps for children and youth are held here.

The history of the Archeparchy is deeply intertwined with the history of the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada, as Winnipeg was one of the initial settlement locations for Ukrainian immigrants in the country.
