Bishop Andriy was born on October 1, 1975, in Lviv, Ukraine. His parents, Anton and Iryna Rabiy, live in Zymna Voda, near Lviv. He has a younger brother, Vitaliy, who is married to Iryna, with two children, Andrian and Yuliana, living in Ukraine.
Bishop Andriy graduated from elementary school in 1992 and entered the Ivano-Frankivsk Seminary to study philosophy. In 1994, he moved to the USA to continue his studies at the Ukrainian Catholic Seminary of St. Josaphat and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and fulfilled the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in religious studies in 1999. He then pursued theology at the Dominican House of Studies, earning a master’s degree “cum laude” in 2002.
He was ordained a subdeacon in May 1998 and a deacon in November 1999 by Metropolitan Stephen Sulyk of Philadelphia. On December 19, 2001, he was ordained a priest by Metropolitan Stefan Soroka at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Philadelphia.
Father Andriy served as administrator of several churches in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and started a mission parish in Lancaster, PA. He earned a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America in 2008. He held various responsibilities in the Archeparchy of Philadelphia, including protosyncellus, vice-chancellor, and safe environment coordinator.
On August 8, 2017, Pope Francis appointed Father Andriy Rabiy as an auxiliary bishop of the Philadelphia Archeparchy, bestowing upon him the title of Bishop of Germaniciana. He was consecrated on September 3, 2017, at St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv.
On April 16, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him as Apostolic Administrator of the Philadelphia Archeparchy. He resumed his role as Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia on June 4, 2019.
On November 10, 2022, Pope Francis, with the blessing of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC, appointed Bishop Andriy Rabiy as auxiliary bishop of the Archeparchy of Winnipeg.
