The Archbishop and Metropolitan of Winnipeg of the UGCC, Lawrence Huculak, has expressed his sincere gratitude to the faithful for their support during a prolonged hospitalization caused by severe complications from COVID-19.

Metropolitan Lawrence was diagnosed with COVID-19 on October 5, 2024. Due to complications, he spent over two months in a Winnipeg hospital receiving intensive treatment. In an address shared by the Winnipeg Archeparchy’s press service on December 19, 2024, he emphasized the vital role that the prayerful support of the clergy, parishes, church organizations, and numerous faithful played in his recovery.

“I am deeply grateful to our Lord Jesus Christ and the Most Holy Mother of God for guiding me through this period of illness. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the parish communities, church organizations, bishops, clergy, and faithful for the Divine Liturgies and numerous prayers offered for my health,” said the Metropolitan.

He also extended special thanks to the doctors and medical staff, particularly Dr. Terry and Dr. Andrea Babick, for their professional care and concern. Metropolitan Lawrence noted that he is now entering a period of rehabilitation and recovery.

“I am not yet able to celebrate liturgical services or receive visitors. I am grateful to Bishop Andriy [Rabiy] and the staff of the Chancery for managing the affairs of the Archeparchy, and I trust they will continue to do so,” he added.

The Metropolitan also thanked the clergy and faithful of other churches and denominations for their prayers. Concluding his address, he wished everyone the peace and joy of the Nativity of Christ.

“I pray that all of you experience and enjoy the peace of the Christ Child, born in Bethlehem for our salvation,” said the Archbishop.
