METROPOLITAN LAWRENCE HUCULAK NAMED TO VATICAN COUNCIL

According to the July 8th news bulletin from the Vatican News Service, Pope Francis appointed the Archbishop of Winnipeg, His Grace Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak, OSBM to the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. Among 22 new appointees, Metropolitan Lawrence joins a unique global team of only 35 cardinals, Archbishops and bishops that form this council that was first established by Pope St. Paul VI at the close of the Second Vatican Council in 1964.

It is not a great surprise that Metropolitan Lawrence was invited to the group as he has distinguished himself over the years as an active and valuable member of various ecumenical and interfaith dialogues and efforts - among the most notable are his participation in Orthodox-Catholic and Muslim-Catholic commissions and events. He served as the President of the Western Diocesan and Eparchial Coordinators of Ecumenism.
