NEW SEMINARY LOCATION BLESSED IN EDMONTON

NEW CHAPTER OF CANADA'S SEMINARY BEGINS IN EDMONTON

On Saturday, October 13 in Edmonton, Alberta the new location of Holy Spirit Seminary was officially opened and blessed by His Grace, Metropolitan Lawrence of Winnipeg and His Excellency, Bishop David of Edmonton. Joined by 20 other clergy from across the country, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Seminary chapel where over 80 guests gathered in prayer alongside 8 seminarians.

Metropolitan Lawrence provided a meaningful reflection on the day's Gospel reading in regards to working on the Sabbath. The rector of the Seminary, Fr. Michael Winn said a few words at the end thanking all those in attendance especially those who had helped the Seminary from their first day of arrival in Edmonton by providing help with unloading trucks, unpacking boxes, setting up and even providing meals. This is an exciting time for the Seminary and how the seminary is not solely for the seminarians, but for the people of Canada. Here is where future priests are formed, so that they go forth as shepherds into our parishes to lead and to form the faithful so that all can be true disciples of Jesus Christ. Following the Rector's greeting, water was blessed and the entire building was blessed by Metropolitan Lawrence, Bishop David and the former Spiritual Director, the Very Rev. Andriy Onuferko.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a group photo was taken of all the clergy and seminarians. After the photo all the guests were invited to the refectory for a light luncheon that was prepared by the seminary cook and her team. There were many new connections made, and some great visits happened between the many alumni of Holy Spirit Seminary that were able to attendance.

All the faithful of Canada are encouraged to keep Holy Spirit Seminary, the rector and the seminarians and the staff in their prayers for a successful year, and at the same time to continue to pray for an increase in vocations.
