UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC PRESENCE AT OTTAWA MARCH

May 10, 2018

EASTERN CATHOLIC CHRISTIANS HAVE AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN OTTAWA MARCH FOR LIFE

The Ottawa March for Life is probably the largest Pro-Life event that takes place in Canada in May every year. Many larger and smaller centres across the country try to have similar marches or some sort of pro-life event on the day. At least most church communities mention the pro-life cause or even dedicate the day's service to it.

Invariably many thousands from across eastern Canada convene in the nation's Capital for two or three days of pro-life witness. The climax, of course, is the massive march through the streets of Ottawa in onto the grounds of the Canada's Parliament Building. On the front lawn of Parliament there are speakers and testimonies and… a prayer for life Moleben' traditionally organized by the Byzantine university students chaplaincy and other local and visiting clergy and faithful.

There was an anti-march by a small, but noisy group, but the delay was minimal and did manage to serve as a reminder to Canadians of the spirit and attitude that ushered in the tragedy of abortion and assisted-suicide that has affected the lives of hundreds of thousands of Canadians.

This year, the Ukrainian Catholic Bishop of Chicago, Most Rev. Benedict (Aleksiychuk) joined many other bishops, priests, women religious and thousands of lay-faithful in the march, but then also led the special Moleben' in front of Parliament.

We thank Jay Korban of Winnipeg, for sharing with us photos of the Ottawa March for Life event!
