FATHER DJURA MALJIK - 35 YEARS A PRIEST OF THE ARCHEPARCHY

FATHER DJURA MALJIK was ordained in Winnipeg to the priesthood by the late Metropolitan Maxim Hermaniuk, C.Ss.R. on 23 January 1983. Since then, he has served at a number of parishes throughout the Archeparchy, including: Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral; the northern parishes of Flin Flon and The Pas. He is presently the Pastor for the parishes of the South East district, that includes: Vita, Stuartburn, Caliento, Tolstoi, Rosa and Sundown, among others. Over the years, Father has also explored the monastic life, gone for additional studies, and has served in various Manitoba parishes.

Fr. Djura (a.k.a. Father George) was actually born on July 14 in the Village of Kucur which today is located in the Republic of Serbia. As a young boy he attended the Pontifical Minor Seminary in Rome run by the Ukrainian Salesian Fathers (this was a boarding school for boys similar to the Redemptorist Fathers' St. Vladimir's College here in Manitoba). He did his studies in Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Ubaniana University in Rome and also achieved a Licentiate in 1982 in Spiritual Theology at the "Teresianum" Pontifical Spirituality Institute run by the Carmelites in Rome. He has also studied Business Administration at The Pas' Community College.

This year marks 35 years since ordination! That's 35 years serving the Lord and His People as a priest.

Photo: Father often concelebrates the Divine Liturgy at Holy Eucharist Church near his residence in East Kildonan. Those attending the morning Liturgy sang him a heartfelt, albeit slightly belated, Mnohaya Lita (see picture) for the occasion of his anniversary.

Thank you Father Djura! God bless and Mnohaya Lita!
