CLERGY GATHER FOR ANNUAL NEW YEAR’S EVENT

January 3, 2018

PRIESTS, DEACONS AND SEMINARIANS GATHER WITH THEIR ARCHBISHOP AS THEY BEGIN A NEW YEAR

The Archbishop of Winnipeg, Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak, once again hosted the entire presbyterate of the Archeparchy of Winnipeg in his home for the annual clergy New Year levee. This longstanding tradition sees priests and deacons come from all across Manitoba to spend an informal yet encouraging afternoon of brotherhood and fellowship together with the 'arch-pastor' of the Province - Archbishop Lawrence.

Unfortunately not all the clergy are able to come due to unforeseen pastoral concerns that arise, or weather conditions or even personal illness. However, many are able to attend and it is a truly warm and welcoming moment of fellowship before everyone sets out into a new year full of untold joys, challenges and the everyday grace of pastoral ministry.

Maryanne Klasz, the onetime cook for the Metropolitans, albeit now 'retired', came back to prepare an exquisite meal for the gathering.

The Seminarians, now preparing for eventual priestly ministry within the Archeparchy had not yet returned to Ottawa to continue their studies, so they were invited to the gathering as well. God willing, they too will be part of the presbyterate serving the people of the Archeparchy one day. (During the afternoon, they also graciously offered to serve refreshments and snacks.)

After everyone had arrived, His Grace, Metropolitan Lawrence, welcomed everyone and shared a few fond memories from over the years. On behalf of the clergy, the Metropolitan's Protosyncellus, Fr. Darren Kawiuk, expressed well wishes and a pledge of support through ministry and continuous prayer.

A wonderful meal was enjoyed by all as priests from far and wide shared accounts of how they celebrated Christmas with their parishioners or how they would celebrate if their parish adheres to the "old" Julian Calendar. Everyone stayed as long as they could, but no one left before expressing to the Metropolitan and to each and every brother a joyful Christmas greeting and sincerely wishing everyone a blessed and happy and successful New Year!
