ROSSBURN PARISH CELEBRATES UKRAINE’S INDEPENDENCE
August 25, 2014
Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Rossburn MB celebrated Ukraine’s Independence Day with a Divine Liturgy and Memorial Service on Sunday, 24 August 2014, during which the faithful prayed for the “Heavenly Hundred” heroes, as well as all those who continue to give their lives in the defense of Ukraine.
This was a continuation of the Ukraine Independence Day celebration on Saturday, 23 August 2014, in Brandon MB, organized by the Canadian Ukrainian Association TRYZUB/TRIDENT.
The ceremony began with the singing of the Ukrainian national anthem and a minute of silence in memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine.
This year’s program was given a more patriotic theme, in light of the current tragic situation, highlighting Ukraine’s flag and coat of arms. A collection was also taken for the needs of the people in Ukraine.
The ceremony ended with the release of blue and yellow balloons, symbolizing the unity of the Ukrainian people and the call to remembrance of those who have given their lives for the freedom and independence of their native land.
