Create an International Preassure to Free Savhcenko

August 19, 2015

In an interview with Deutsche Welle published on August 16th 2015, Novikov, attorney for Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, who has been illegally imprisoned in Russia for over a year, stated, “I don't think the trial will last longer than two weeks. If we start next week as scheduled, then it will likely be the end of August or the start of September. We don't think she'll be acquitted. We know the Russian legal system too well to expect that. In controversial cases where politics is at play, the control comes directly from above. So despite all the evidence, we are not expecting for Savchenko to walk free. But it is our goal to create enough international pressure that she may be freed after the verdict is handed down. The charge of murder of two journalists was amended to include illegal crossing of a state border. That's a clear sign about how little the prosecution has to go on. It's getting more and more absurd.” Savchenko was serving in eastern Ukraine, when abducted by Kremlin-backed terrorists in June 2014 and taken to Russia, where she has been illegally detained and imprisoned since that time. Russia has ignored repeated calls from the international community for her immediate release.

The faithful are cordially asked to prayerfully keep Nadiya Savchenko in your prayers. Let all of us pray for God's intervetion in her fate.
