His Beatitude Sviatoslav on the upcoming Sobor

August 19, 2015

“The Patriarchal Council Will be an occasion for an examination of conscience.”

“Vibrant Parish – A Place to Encounter the Living Christ” is not merely a plan which we designed for someone. It is an all-Church movement. It is a life that we live. Thus, the Patriarchal Council (i.e. Sobor)  is the perfect time to exchange experiences and gifts. It is also a time for an examination of conscience, to give a response to the question: to what extent are we a living community as the Church?

The Head and the Father of UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav explained in his interview for the film “The face of the living Church” that is being developed by  the creative team of “Live.TV” (http://zhyve.tv/ ). A premiere showing is planned for the 25th of August, during the work of Session VI of the Patriarchal Soborl of UGCC.

The Head of the UGCC stressed that within Ukrainian Catholic Church there are different parishes: those that are born, ripened, those which are ‘overripe’ and even those that are frozen. “That is why it is so important for us to exchange those gifts we possess today. In order to receive some of the experiences that our parishes are having, let’s say, in another country or, maybe, on another continent. It is so important for us to understand where we share in that strategy”

Framing the main tendencies of Church development in this strategic plan, the Head of the Church said: “We are open for God to make His corrections”. The Church is the Body of Christ and not merely a human structure that has a plan for its strategic development.

“The last word in the life of the Church is always for Christ Who is the Head of it. He is the ‘Groom’ of the whole Church community which is His ‘Bride’”, - he explained.

As His Beatitude Sviatoslav explained,  history makes its own corrections in the Church life, as well: “Some five years ago we couldn’t imagine that a war would start in Ukraine. We didn’t think our country would go through the Revolution of Dignity. And we didn’t know, for sure, a place to encounter a Living Christ would not only be a parish but the Maidan of Kyiv and now also the front line”.

So, this Patriarchal Council will become a “moment of listening to God’s word, when Christ’s bride is talking to her Bridegroom, listening to Him, meeting Him, responding to His call”.
