April 13, 2015
SR. EPIPHANY OLLIA PASCHAK, SSMI 1927 - 2015 Sr. Epiphany, SSMI, peacefully died on April 9, 2015 at Seven Oaks Hospital, surrounded by her Sisters.
Ollia, was born and raised in Winnipeg to a very loving and community minded Ukrainian Catholic Family. She was educated in St. Nicholas School, where she encountered the Sisters. After her schooling, Ollia stayed home and cared for her ailing mother. In 1952, she entered the Novitiate of the SSMI in Ancaster, where she took the name Epiphany and made her final profession in 1959. Sr. Epiphany was a very musical, creative and free spirit. She completed her Royal Conservatory Music Degree, qualifying her to be a Music Teacher. From 1957 to 1970, she poured her gifts into teaching piano, theory, harmony and conducting choirs at the Sister's Music Schools in Toronto and Winnipeg. She also taught at Mount Mary Academy, Ancaster and Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy and School in Winnipeg. There are many young people in Winnipeg who have taken piano lessons from Sister Epiphany over the years. She played piano with her soul and has lifted the spirits of many, including residents of Holy Family Home. A Religious Sister for 63 years, Sister Epiphany was a very quiet, prayerful and faithful person with a great love for God and all creation. A woman of few words, she embraced life as it unfolded. Her love for animals throughout life led to many friendships. Parastas will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 at Bethany Home, 131 Aberdeen Ave. Rosary and viewing will be followed by Divine Liturgy beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
With heavy hearts the Ukrainian Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate share the sad news of the passing of their beloved Sister in Christ. May God grant her peaceful repose among the Saints.
