LONGTIME RECTOR OF OTTAWA SHRINE REPOSES IN THE LORD

June 2, 2021

FATHER CYRIL MYKYTIUK, OSBM REPOSED IN TE LORD AT BASILIAN MONASTERY IN MUNDARE, ALBERTA

The Basilian Fathers regret to inform you that Fr. Cyril Mykytiuk, OSBM, long time pastor of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine in Ottawa, ON, and lately of Sts. Peter and Paul Monastery, Mundare, AB, passed away in hospital in Edmonton, AB earlier today.

Father had been struggling with his health for years with various challenges including a heart condition. His health had gone back and forth for several weeks and he had received the anointing of the sick a month ago, improved, and has now passed. Through his illness, Fr. Damien (Dutka), superior of Mundare, visited him with the sacraments and most recently Fr. Seraphim (Grygoruk), superior of the Edmonton monastery anointed him yesterday. Funeral arrangements are now being made. When they've been determined, we will post the times and dates and will make available the link which can be used to view the monastic parastas, as well as the funeral divine liturgy. The services will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Mundare, with burial in the Fathers' section in the church cemetery. Please keep Fr. Cyril in your prayers so that he may meet the Lord to receive the reward of his 58 years of priestly service and 66 years of monastic life in the Order of St. Basil the Great.

For those who would like to pray for Fr. Cyril in church, a divine liturgy for the repose of his soul will be celebrated in church for the next 3 days at 7:45 AM, Wednesday June 2, Thursday, June 3 and Friday, June 4. This is according to our custom in the Basilian Order. As per our current Covid restrictions, please register ahead of time in order to reserve a place at the services. A panakhyda for his repose will be celebrated after the 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM divine liturgies on Sunday, June 6. We also encourage you to request Divine Liturgies to be celebrated for the repose of his soul, which can be celebrated over the next few weeks. As he served us in life, we can now help him in return.

With the saints, give him rest, O Christ, Eternal memory!

Зі святими упокой Христе, Вічна йому пам'ять!
