Study Days are coming to Ottawa AND Edmonton!

This is a preliminary notice about the Sheptytsky Institute’s Study Days for the summer of 2010. We are sending it out to those of you who have attended previous Study Days, to those who have expressed interest in coming for the first time and to those who have demonstrated support of the Institute in various ways. The Study Days are an opportunity for the clergy, religious, monastics and laity to come together in prayer, ecumenical understanding and faith development.

OTTAWA STUDY DAYS

Dates: Monday, June 28 to Wednesday, June 30 (there will be a free public lecture on Sunday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m.)

Place: Saint Paul University, Ottawa

Theme: “Holiness and Healing”

Keynote speakers:

-           Rev. Dr. Michael Plekon (priest of the Orthodox Church in America and professor at Baruch College, The City University of New York – on Sunday evening he will speak about his recently released book Hidden Holiness)

-           Dr. Suzette Phillips (graduate of MASI with PhD in Theology and practicing Mental Health and Occupational Therapist)

-           Rev. Dr. Myroslaw Tataryn (Vice-President and Academic Dean and professor of Religious Studies at St. Jerome’s University)

Workshop speakers

EDMONTON STUDY DAYS

Dates: Friday, July 30 to Sunday, August 1

Place: King’s College, Edmonton

Theme: “An Eastern Christian Feast for the Mind and Heart”

Keynote speakers: The professors of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute

-           Rt. Rev. Dr. Andriy Chirovsky Peter and Doris Kule Professor of Eastern Christian Theology and Spirituality (Full Professor)

-           Very Rev. Dr. Peter Galadza, Kule Family Professor of Eastern Christian Liturgy (Full Professor)

-           Very Rev. Dr. John A. Jillions, Eastern Christian Studies and Ecumenism (Associate Professor)

Workshop speakers: To be announced

Workshop Topics: To be announced (will include cantoring)

Youth programme:    For children aged 5 to 12

-           THO 3324 Introduction to Eastern Christian Ethics (Monday-Friday mornings)

-           THO 2144 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Spirituality I: A Contemporary Reading of “The Way of the Pilgrim,” (Monday-Friday evenings)

2012

  The Holy Synod in Manitoba
  • In 2012, on the occasion of the centennary of the arrival of the first bishop to Canada, the Holy Synod of the Church will meet in and be hosted by the Archeparchy
  • Bishops from the entire church will gather in the Archeparchy to deliberate and direct the actions and policies of the Church for the coming year

 

  Hiero-martyr Nykyta (Budka) Anniversary:
